And so, a bitter Kratos killed Persephone, imprisoned Atlas, and freed Helios. Knowing that while this intervention would save Calliope, it would separate him from his family forever. Kratos, however, was forced to reverse his own decision when Persephone used the Titan Atlas in a bid to destroy all the world, and in turn, the spirit of Calliope. Kratos was further reluctant to help the gods when an imprisoned Helios was kidnapped, and openly abandoned his missions when Persephone offered him a chance to be than reunited with his daughter. He then vowed to serve the other gods in order to receive his forgiveness and relief from the nightmares of his past deeds, but he was also openly defiant. Although free of his oath to the god, he was flooded with different memories of killing his family. In order to completely be free of Ares' oath, Kratos was now forced to kill Orkos, who begged Kratos to do so. He was then helped by the oath keeper Orkos and he eventually overcame and defeated the Furies. As Athena's temple burned, a Village Oracle cursed Kratos and she condemned him to wear the ashes of his family, which also turned his skin into white, earning him the title " Ghost of Sparta".īecause Kratos renounced Ares, it broke his blood oath to the god, and as such, Kratos was imprisoned and tortured by the three Furies. However, the Spartan was shocked out of his bloodlust and renounced his service to Ares. After Ares tricked Kratos into murdering his wife, Lysandra and daughter, Calliope in a Temple dedicated to Athena. Kratos was given the Blades of Chaos, destroyed his own enemies, and blindly following Ares, by killing hundreds in his own name. When Kratos was faced with total defeat at the hands of a big barbarian horde led by Alrik, the Spartan called to Ares for his help. Kratos then became the strongest captain of Sparta's Army, but had more thirst for power. Later, Alrik eventually became the Barbarian King, and thus Kratos saved his own daughter. Kratos than overcame all obstacles, including, amongst other champions. Five of the gods entered into a wager with Ares: each chose a champion to search for the Ambrosia with Ares' champion being Kratos. In order to save his daughter, Kratos was granted a big quest to find the Ambrosia of Asclepius, an magical elixir with healing properties. Upon birth, Calliope was stricken with the plague. Kratos later meets his wife Lysandra and they have a daughter named Calliope. Believing Deimos to be dead, Kratos marked himself with a red tattoo, identical to his brother's birthmark, to honour his sibling. Taken to Domain of Death, Deimos was than imprisoned and tortured for many years by the God of Death, Thanatos. Kratos attempted to stop Ares, but Ares swept him aside and scarred him across his right eye. Ares and Athena interrupted the training of Kratos and Deimos in Sparta and the former proceeded to kidnap Deimos. Both brothers were raised in Sparta throughout some portions of their childhood until Zeus, Athena, and Ares believed the prophesized " Marked Warrior" to be Deimos, due to the child's strange birthmark. The same is true of his younger brother Deimos. Kratos was born as a result of the affair between a mortal woman named Callisto and Zeus, The King of the Gods.
